Fifteen operators run trips to the Algar de Benagil from six towns. They are not interchangeable: the town you leave from decides how long you actually get at the cave, and the craft decides whether you glide in by kayak or pass through on a boat. Here's all of it, side by side — with each operator's Portuguese tourism licence checked.
Sorted by departure proximity (most cave time first). Click any column heading to re-sort. "From" is the cheapest published adult price; where an operator doesn't publish prices we say so rather than guess. Cave access reflects the 2024 rules — motor boats enter only briefly, kayaks/SUPs paddle in with a guide.

★ ratings are from the operator's strongest public review profile (TripAdvisor / GetYourGuide / Google). * = self-reported or indicative figure not independently confirmed. "Not listed" = a genuine, operating company that simply does not publish an RNAAT licence number on its own site — not a red flag, but unverified. Prices are starting adult fares and change seasonally; confirm at booking.
Leave from Carvoeiro or Armação de Pêra — 15–25 minutes each way means more minutes at Benagil and less transit. Sétima Onda and Tridente start at €25; Carvoeiro Caves and Carvoeiro Tours are the Carvoeiro stalwarts.
A guided kayak or SUP from Benagil beach is the only way to enter under your own power (you can't rent and go in alone any more). Blue Xperiences, Benagil Eco Tours and Benagil Kayak run small guided groups.
A catamaran from Portimão — toilet, bar, stable deck. Algarve SunBoat's electric catamaran is the quiet, zero-emission pick; AlgarExperience from Albufeira carries a marine biologist on dolphin trips.
Longer crossings from Lagos, Albufeira or Vilamoura usually bundle dolphin watching. Bom Dia and Seafaris (Lagos) pass Ponta da Piedade; many offer a money-back-no-dolphins guarantee.
The €25 short boat tours from Armação de Pêra (Sétima Onda Classic, Tridente Essential) are the lowest published fares — an hour on the water, straight to the cave and back.
An early kayak/SUP slot gets you low to the water with soft light, or a small boat on the first departure beats the noon crowds. Ask for a sunrise tour where offered.
One rule applies to every option: no one lands on the beach inside the cave, and no one swims in. If a tour promises you'll "stop on the beach inside Benagil," it's describing the pre-2024 experience — politely check before you pay.
A 2016-founded paddle specialist and one of the best-reviewed names on the coast. Guided kayak Benagil tours from €35 and SUP from €40, in guide-led groups of six or fewer craft as the rules require — entering the algar from the east in single file, with sunrise and sunset variants. The pick if you want a polished, paddle-first small-group experience.
A Benagil-based operator (recently licensed, RNAAT 583/2025) running Express 1.5h, standard 2h and Premium 3h kayak tours plus SUP and clear-bottom kayaks, with private secure parking near the beach — a real perk given Benagil's parking crunch. Prices aren't published online; expect the usual ~€30–€45 band. Treat any "private beach drop-off" as being at a legal cove, not the cave's interior beach.
A high-volume, well-reviewed beach operator: guided kayak tours from €33.92, guided rentals from €23.85, SUP from €15, booked live through FareHarbor. We could not find an RNAAT number or company registration on its site, so we flag the licence as unverified — it is clearly a real, busy operator, but the paperwork isn't public. Verify before booking if that matters to you.
A long-running, Turismo-de-Portugal-certified operator with multiple TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice awards. The core Benagil boat tour is ~1 hour from €30; a Benagil & Marinha option runs ~1h30 from €35, with a Portimão departure and private charters too. Small boats enter the caves where conditions and the 2-minute cap allow. A safe, established first choice from the nearest town.
Thirty-plus years on Carvoeiro beach with a fleet of small six-metre boats whose size is the selling point — they slip into tight cave spaces the big catamarans can't. Carvoeiro Benagil & Marinha is €32.50 (~1h15); a Portimão departure runs €37.50. Walk-up booth on the beach square, or book online. Don't confuse it with Carvoeiro Caves — different company, both reputable.
The standout on raw reputation: a perfect 5.0 across roughly 1,400 TripAdvisor reviews, ranked #1 in Armação de Pêra. Benagil Classic is €25 (1h), Plus €35 (1h30), with sunset and sunrise runs. Short, friendly, excellent-value boat trips straight to the cave — our value pick.
Modern small motorboats capping at about ten passengers — small enough to nose into the caves under the <12 m rule. The shared Essential is €25 (1h); private hire from €250. Departs Armação de Pêra (not Carvoeiro or Benagil, despite some listings). A tidy, well-run small-boat option.
A zero-emission electro-solar catamaran (the 12 m "Sun Cat", up to ~30 guests, with bar and toilet) — quiet, stable and the greenest way to the cave. Around 3 hours, roughly €42 via GetYourGuide, with a sunset variant. The comfortable, eco-minded choice from Portimão.
A nimble speedboat that works the cave coast hard — the Benagil & Marinha tour (2h, from €35) takes in a dozen-plus caves, entering where legally possible. "Clean & Safe" certified, strong reviews. Note this is the Portimão operator at benagilexpress.com — distinct from the separate "Express Tour" run from Benagil beach.
A small-boat operator out of Portimão Marina (despite "from Carvoeiro" appearing on some resale listings). A shared Caves & Coast trip runs ~2h30 from about €38, plus a sunset run and private options. Its own site was hard to reach during research, so prices here are indicative — confirm directly. Licence verified (899/2018).
A flexible operator offering a distinctive boat-plus-kayak combo: a RIB carries you to Benagil within the permitted window, then you switch to a guided kayak to paddle in. Combo from Portimão is €42.64; a semi-rigid trip €31.98; a beach kayak from €23.58. Well-reviewed (626 reviews), but only a tax ID — no RNAAT number — is public, so we mark the licence unverified.
A big, polished catamaran operation carrying a marine biologist on dolphin trips (cetacean licence AOC/25/2023). Benagil-and-dolphins trips start around €26–€29. Note the ~100-passenger catamaran most likely views the cave from the entrance while a smaller RIB does the actual entry — so check which vessel your trip uses if going inside matters.
A Lagos institution since 1980, with beautiful 1920s–50s sailing boats for the coast and a fast "Hurricane" motorboat for the Benagil-plus-dolphins run (2h30, ~€40–€55, with a marine biologist aboard). The scenic west-coast choice — you pass Ponta da Piedade en route. Huge review base across TripAdvisor and GetYourGuide.
Running since 1999 aboard "Tornado", a large ~28-seat rigid inflatable. The dedicated Benagil Sea Cave tour is 2 hours at €42.90 (the homepage promo dips to €27.90); dolphin and Ponta da Piedade trips also on the slate. A punchy, fast option from Lagos with a strong cave-product rating (~4.8).
The eastern option, out of Vilamoura — modern small-group speedboats running Benagil Cave & Coast and dolphin-and-caves trips (~2.5h, roughly €35–€45). It's the longest run to the cave, so best if you're staying near Vilamoura/Quarteira; the operator pushes direct booking for the best price.
How we checked licences. A legitimate Portuguese maritime-tourism operator holds an RNAAT registration (Registo Nacional dos Agentes de Animação Turística). We looked for that number on each operator's own website. Thirteen of fifteen publish one — shown above. Two (Benagil Kayak, Ocean 4 Fun) are clearly real, high-volume operators that don't list a number publicly; we mark them unverified rather than omit them. We excluded aggregators and booking portals, which are not operators.
One operator left out. We dropped a Portimão boat operator that carried both a low safety-related review profile and no verifiable licence — on a guide about a place where safety rules were tightened for a reason, it didn't meet the bar.
Prices and ratings: June 2026, from operators' own sites and public review platforms. Unpublished figures are left blank. Always confirm current price, schedule and the access rules with your operator before booking.
